Gold Quill Awards Lead to ‘Wider Frontiers’
by: Ramoncito Cruz

The “FINEX 50: Leading on to Wider Frontiers” is a fitting commemoration of the Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines’ (FINEX) 50th anniversary. Celebrating the anniversary was the foremost objective in publishing this coffee table book.

FINEX is the Philippines’ premier organization of finance professionals. It is made up of more than 800 senior executives, including CEOs and CFOs, of the country’s top corporations, academic institutions and small-to-medium enterprises. Founded in 1968, FINEX is affiliated with the International Association of Financial Executives Institutes (IAFEI), based in Switzerland, and has hosted the IAFEI World Congress in Manila four times.

FINEX teamed up with Media Wise, an award-winning communications group that assists firms and individuals in achieving their information-delivery objectives, to co-publish FINEX’s golden jubilee book.

Santiago Dumlao, principal author of FINEX’s 25th anniversary book, was designated as chief chronicler of the golden jubilee book. Dumlao and managing editor Albert Gamboa completed the bulk of the research and writing before turning over the edited manuscript to Media Wise for layout, design and printing.

About the Book

FINEX and Media Wise collaborated on layout, design and printing to produce a 238-page volume that offers invaluable information about FINEX. The book’s chapters focus on three key messages highlighting the organization’s heritage of financial leadership, professional excellence and economic advocacies with special emphasis on capital market development and national issues. The book documents FINEX’s milestones and featured the illustrious men and women who are products of this Filipino institution.

During monthly general membership meetings, FINEX members were encouraged to lend their memorabilia and photos of past events to the project team. This was meant to involve the entire organization in the book’s production and to ensure a buy-in among its stakeholders, who were the primary target audience.

Following the book distribution, the FINEX board achieved its objectives of increasing membership by 5% and sponsorships by 10% within a period of 18 months. This exceeded previous year-over-year metrics.

The Gold Quill Influence

Winning the Gold Quill Award of Merit has made us more confident and even more determined to strive harder and for better, following the Gold Quill standards, than when we published our last book. It has made us feel very much a part of the global business communicator community.

One of the main reasons why we enter our best work is for benchmarking. We don’t do projects just to enter the Gold Quill Awards. We enter only projects that conform to the standard of Gold Quill excellence, and we follow the SMART method. Winning four Gold Quill Awards in a span of just five years has further validated the quality of our work. From then on, the Gold Quill Awards have always been our benchmark for all our projects. We also ensure that our project outcomes are aligned to our objectives.

For others submitting to the Gold Quill Awards, we suggest choosing only the projects that are well written and designed and have positive outcomes that meet the project’s objectives. It is critical to review and edit your entry before final submission.
